In July 2026, the GAB project coordination team visited the Deutsches Museum to meet with our former project coordinator, Dr. Michaela Meier, who led the Bavarian Geothermal Alliance for just over a year.
Much of our meeting centered on the question of how deep geothermal energy can be made more visible to the public. What formats effectively reach people? How can complex topics be communicated in an understandable way? And how can research, education, and communication work together even more effectively?
It was an open and inspiring exchange featuring many ideas, experiences, and new perspectives. Particularly valuable was the insight into science communication within the context of the Deutsches Museum and the question of how technical and geoscientific topics can be made accessible to a broad audience.
There was consensus on one point in particular: The energy transition requires not only innovative technologies but also clear communication tailored to specific audiences. Deep geothermal energy holds great potential, yet many people are still unfamiliar with it. This makes it all the more important to present this knowledge in an accessible way and to further expand the dialogue with the public.
We’ve taken many suggestions with us and look forward to continuing to advance communication on deep geothermal energy together.
