Exchange of experience on district heating – geothermal energy as an option
The GAB-Event “Exchange of experience on district heating – geothermal energy as an option” took place on June 22nd 2022. The GAB, the STROM project and the Chair of Energy Systems at the Technical University of Munich, as well as the energy agencies Chiemgau-Salzach-Inn, Südostbayern, Ebersberg-München and the Energiewende Oberland had invited together to the event. We would like to thank all participants for their great interest in the event!
During the keynote speeches from science, the speakers Michaela Meier, Jerry Lambert and Benedikt Schweiger presented the geothermal potential in Bavaria, new technologies in district heating pipe laying and results of a study on sector coupling in Bavaria.
From the industry, Christian Maier of Energiewende Garching presented the state of development of digitalization, which should increase the economic viability of geothermal energy. Theo Kröper from Stadtwerke München GmbH reported on the challenges and opportunities for decarbonizing an existing district heating network.
In the panel discussion, visions, challenges and opportunities of deep geothermal energy and district heating network expansion in Bavaria were discussed with the further participants Wolfgang Geisinger (Geothermie Unterhaching), Dr. Willie Stiehler (Energieagentur Ebersberg-München) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hamacher (TUM Chair for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems).
Thank you to all the speakers and panelists!
