COMPACT RESEARCH RESULTS FROM OUR FIRST FUNDING PERIOD

GAB brochure 2020. Download the file by clicking on the image.

Just in time for the end of the first term of the Geothermal-Alliance Bavaria (GAB) we created a brochure. The aim of the brochure is to present the most important research results of the GAB from the respective sub-projects in a condensed form in order to gain an overview of the work. It is aimed at research institutions, plant operators, authorities, planning offices, politicians and interested laymen.

The research network of the Geothermal-Alliance Bavaria has been successfully established in its four-year project period from 2016 to 2019. Through the interdisciplinary research of engineers and geoscientists, important questions in the field of deep geothermal energy could be answered in cooperation with geothermal plant operators and authorities. Hydrogeochemical investigations allowed us to understand the formation of unwanted deposits quantitatively and to take suitable countermeasures. In terms of operation, optimal operating strategies for geothermal power plants were developed in order to increase the efficiency and thus the profitability of the technology. The geothermal reservoir in southern Bavaria was examined with regard to its properties, whereby regional trends in exploration succes can now be explained and possible risks, such as the induced seismicity, can be better assessed. With the exploration measures carried out in north-east Bavaria, we gained new insights into the subsoil here and thus took an important step towards a petrothermal pilot project in Bavaria. In addition, the FAU and TUM successfully set up a joint degree master’s program in geothermal energy/geoenergy .
