Why deep geothermal energy needs greater public visibility: GAB in an interview with the “Zeitung für kommunale Wirtschaft”

Why deep geothermal energy needs greater public visibility: GAB in an interview with the “Zeitung für kommunale Wirtschaft”

The sustainable transformation of the heating sector will only succeed if viable solutions are made visible. We were therefore very pleased that the Zeitung für kommunale Wirtschaft featured deep geothermal energy and the work of the Geothermal Alliance Bavaria in an in-depth interview. The article was published in an accessible format on their website on January 6, 2026.

For ten years, we have been supporting deep geothermal energy as an interface between research, industry, and society. Time and again, we see how great the need for information is, especially in regions where the technology is still new. Many questions and concerns arise from a lack of knowledge. This makes open, early, and clear communication all the more important.

In the interview, we explained why deep geothermal energy is a safe, proven, and economically viable heat source in the long term. Experience from existing plants clearly shows that acceptance and trust are high wherever geothermal energy is already part of municipal infrastructure.

We would like to sincerely thank the editorial team of the Zeitung für kommunale Wirtschaft for their focus on this key topic of the german energy transition. Contributions like this are an important building block for a well-informed public debate.
